Playa del Carmen construction activity

Can anyone pass along information regarding the noise from construction at 8th street and the beachfront? There's a new building going up between the Pelicano and the Alhambra hotels. I'll be staying in that area in a few months and I am concerned about the noise levels. Any info or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bring ear plugs like I always do!

I agree with Dan - I always bring earplugs. When we were in Playa del Carmen last March, the street that our hotel was located on was being torn up. We had booked the place in advance and paid a deposit, so we didn't have much choice. I found the Mexican telephone guys started really early in the morning (far earlier than they do in Canada, for example), then they'd knock off for a couple of hours midday and go back at it. It was noisy, but the earplugs helped. I find Mexico in general is noisy!

Just got back from Playa - stayed at Porto Real Resort right down from all the construction. Didn't hear a sound and our room was on the 2nd floor facing the street. It looks unsightly but that is about it.

Appreciate the comments. I know about the earplugs. I've been to Playa before and it does tend to be noisy. It's just growing too fast, especially north of the Porto Real. Anyway, if anyone has comments about the 8th street noise, please post it. Thanks.
