playa del carmen

I won a trip to Playa Del Carmen and we will be staying at Allegro Playacar by Occidental the end of May. Can anyone provide details concerning this hotel? Also, conditions there since the hurricane? And, recommended places/tours to visit? Our first visit to Mexico.

Locogringo will not give you much info on PDC as they are more involved in points south such as Akumal and Tulum. Playa.info.com will give much more in the PDC area. As far as recommendations on places to go it depends on what kinds of things you would like to see from ruins to zip line tours. The conditions since the hurricane are fine, the beaches are beautiful and the town is running like before. Have a great time and look for a few websites for info on your resort.

wow, lucky you!. We were in Playa in January, and it was just fine - a few broken palm trees, and a few damaged buildings right near the water, but really not much. Where you are staying is a little south of the downtown, so you'll need some kind of transportation to get into the actual commercial area of PDC, which is a great place to walk around in the evening. There are tons of things to do in this area: visit the ruins at Tulum, spend a day snorkelling at Xel-Ha, Xcaret or Ya-Kul, explore cenotes and caves, and just veg out on the beautiful Playa beaches. You may want to consider renting a car if you do want to do a lot of exploring on your own. PDC is great, I guarantee you'll be back!

Playa del Carmen is so much fun. We have just returned after having to change our plans from Cancun to Playa, and we were not disappointed at all. The pedestrian shopping area - 5th Avenue - has a multitude of lovely restaurants with outdoor and rooftop seating. The beach where our resort was - Las Palapas - was gorgeous (not so pretty closer in though) and the people in the town were very nice. We had an especially good meal at La Parilla and a very fun time sitting and people watching at The Tequila Barrel. Have fun!

Just returned from our trip to Playa Del Carmen. It is so absolutely gorgeous there with the beautiful, crystal clear water and white sands. I was on the beach each morning at 5:45 to watch the sunrise; what a site; got some great pictures. So relaxing! We're already planning our next trip. We loved XCARET; the snorkeling, sea trek and dolphin swim were so fun and memorable for us, especially my grandson. The Spectacular Mexico night show at Xcaret was very entertaining; a must see! Allegro Playacar resort was quite nice; beds were hard, and the food wasn't fancy but we enjoyed the delicious fruit at breakfast. Missed having "good" coffee; no Starbucks there. Beautiful weather but extremely humid there. Visited Senor' Frog's on 5th Avenue; fun experience and so many neat shops in town. Taxi drivers were very helpful and nice. Will definitely go again; a dream vacation!

all of the above plus you can take the ferry to Cozumel for great people watching around the main plaza at sunset, and a boat trip to snorkel / dive over the Palancar reef.
