I am staying at the Panama Jacks resort in Playa del carmen early January 2018. reviews, comments and wanting to know whether the renovations have been completed.

recommendations of trips to take from playa del carmen.

Until very recently this was the Gran Porto Real resort. Google it....there are many Google reviews on it. Also check out Trip Advisor.

If you are staying there, what difference does it make, you'll find out about renovations, etc. Many people ask questions like that before they book a place.

For trips, I'd suggest Tulum as the most obvious, and Cozumel if you want to do snorkeling, then you can do day bus tours to CHichen Itza or Coba or some of those manufactured parks (like Xel-ha). Really depends on your interests. You can even do a day tour to Rio Lagartos and Ek Balam, I did from PDC and really liked it a lot.

If you don't want to take the ferry to Cozumel to snorkel you can take a Colectivo or taxi to Akumal and snorkel with the sea turtles.
