Planning a CR trip

I am planning a trip to Costa Rica on Caravan Tours, which I know is an excellent tour company as I have traveled with them twice before but has anyone done their CR tour and if so any points for me? I have planned a Nov. 2ond start date, how is the weather at that time? I know it is still the rainy season but how bad can it be?

We will be out of SFO and beleive me flights are hard to get without long layovers with a redeye going also. One flight on TACA air leaves at 1:25am with a 35 minute connection in San Salvador, is this possible to make? I looked up the airport website and it looks to be a real small airport. All the connections are real screwy to long or to short connections. I may try to bounce for first class or business as they seem to be about double which is not bad from SFO. Someone please help me with some information, Buck

I'm not sure where you're looking for airfare, but AA has some flights with short layovers for $430 including taxes dept 11/1, returning 11/12, no red-eye, no long layovers. I assume your tour is a 10 day one?

Hipvigrochick,

FYI, that AA $430 flight ends up being over $500 with the tax. And I can't find one that gets me there before 8 or 9 pm. Caravan has a meeting and dinner that night at 8pm, and I know that I can go the day before to solve that problem, righ, thank you just the same , Buck

buck -- It wasn't really clear in your OP if you were starting the tour on Nov 2, or wanting to arrive on Nov 2.

Here is the flight I mentioned before, it gets you in at 7:05pm, no red-eye, no long layover. The total is $430 INCLUDING taxes. Hope this helps. I didn't check to see if the same flight runs on 11/2.

I flew SFO/SJO many times with Taca...since is TACA to TACA connection is not a problem at all for the connection...the Airport in San Salvador...is not that small...but small enough to make a close connection..trust me I tried all the ways possible out of SFO to SJO...the only one that really make some sense was SFO/SAL/SFO...

Just buckle up and enjoy the ride in paradise!!

Hipvirgochick, thanks for the aa flight, my tour starts on nov2 with dinner before an 8 oclock meeting, so I would have to go the day before on that flight plan. We will see what happens, thanks for all your help, input from other travelers always helps alot on the planning of a trip, (Buck) I may still go with the redeye at 1:25am,on Nov.2, with a connection in San Salvadore of 35 minutes which another traveler says is makeable. thanks for all

There is an excellent Caravan Trip Report for Costa Rica from May--just do a search on the Costa Rica forum for this.

I purchased tickets on Taca Air from SFO to SJO first class for 932 each. It will be a first for us up front. It was about double the price but I thought it was worth it as its a 12:30 am departure time, Buck
