Pico Bonito in Honduras?
 

Has anyone been? How is the food? Is there enough to keep you busy? Would you go again? So many questions...Thanks!!!

johnb - I'm planning a trip to Honduras for next Feb and am always checking this site for info. Have you been on Pico Bonito's website? www.picobonito.com It looks so amazing but I have been fooled by hotel website photos in the past and am wondering if it really is that incredible... A previous poster did tell me that the food was very good.

I know their a member of SLH, take a look at that website. I have never been disappointed with and SLH resort or hotel.

I also spoke to David, he said he was one of the owners. His number is the toll free one on their site. He was great to talk with and spent 20 minutes telling me about the place.

We just got back from Belize but did the beach. We or at least I want to try the jungle..Please Please let me know what you find out and if you go please contact me!!!! [email protected]

Will you be spending your whole trip at Pico Bonito, or traveling to other parts of Honduras? I am planning to spend 4 nts at Pico Bonito and 3 nts on Roatan or vice versa. I am probably going over President's day week in Feb 2005. When are you planning for? I'll post any info I find along the way...

Dont have spellings!!! Plan on spending 3 or 4 nights at Pico and the 2 nights at Roatan. Flying into San Padreo Sula and taking puddle jumper to La Ceiba, picked up from there. Flying out of La Ceiba to Tegucigalpa, I think near Roatan and out of that airport home. Have you any ideas on were to stay in Roatan?

I am looking at the Mayan Princess and the Luna Beach Resort on Roatan. Both sound quite nice and are around the same price per night so I am not sure which to choose. The Mayan Princess just completed a renovation of the pool/grottos so I am leaning towards this resort. I would like to stay in the West End because I think this is where most of the action is.

I haven't stayed at either resort, but saw both when I was in Roatan. If you want to stay where the action is, that would be Mayan Princess. It is on West Bay Beach, which is the most popular beach and probably the nicest. Luna Beach Resort is between West Bay Beach and the town of West End, but closer to West End, and is somewhat isolated. From Luna Beach, you can walk along the beach to either West End or West Bay Beach.

Just got back from 7 nights at Pico Bonito. It is a great place. The website does not do it justice. An outstanding physical location. I will post a more detailed trip report in the upcoming days.

The cabins are all excellent. The standard cabins are almost as nice as the luxury ones. The food is good, lots of creams and interesting sauces. The breakfast are out of this world, specifically because of the fruit. The liquados are insanely good, made with fresh fruit. The hot chocolate is also outstanding. My wife did not love the food as much as I did. The menu changes each night. For dinner there is a set meal. She would have liked some standards such as a basic soup, or a basic grilled chicken.

The property is huge and beyond dazzling. We mostly chilled out, but there are numerous excursions if you want to go that route. We went to Cayos Cachinos (a series of small islands)--again, just out of this world. But we went through an outside agency, because it is a rather obscure trip.

Copan is a great little town, but the drive there is a little harrowing, as the roads in Honduras are thoroughly psychotic, with people passing each other recklessly on two-lane highways.

Would definitely go to Pico Bonito again. We spent a week at Turtle Inn and Blancaneux in Belize beforehand, and Pico Bonito definitely holds it own with those resorts.

We didn't visit Roatan, but I have heard good things about the Mayan Princess.
