I liked Valparaiso too. But my preference goes to the far south (Patagonia) and the lakes region

Jeremie,

Vos photos sont spectaculaires et votre blogue de voyage est parmi les meilleurs! Merci pour l'avoir partagé avec nous.

This is an amazing online travel journal that captures simply spectacular scenery and great travel moments from the world over. Great inspiration for the travellers in this forum!

Thanks Mona Manuel for the compliment. That's great to hear! Do you live in Chile or just interested in this country?

MonaManuel Jun 14th, 2006 10:21 AM

Hi Jeremie,

Neither, to your questions. I was visiting the forum for information on Argentina when your posting caught my eye.

So amazing!

Jeremie Jun 15th, 2006 10:38 PM

Would love to go Argentina. But that shall be for another time. Next destination will be India!

Jeremie, thanks for posting your photos. I looked through some of them and they are awesome! We have been wanting to go see Torres del Paine.

Hubby and I love to travel and want someplace romantic for our 25th wedding anniversary trip in January. Do you think Chile can be a romantic trip? I know that's a very subjective question, but what do you think? These are other places we have loved:

Ireland
Italy
Costa Rica
New Zealand
Hawaii

I'll check back to see if you are still here! Thanks!

Hi Melissa - we spent 4 weeks in Chile early this year - as you say it's very subjective but I'm not sure I would call it romantic.....we've travelled a lot to Itay and Hawaii (two places on your list) and they would be higher on the romantic scale to me.

But.....it's a fabulous destination - and you can make your own romance!

Dear Melissa,

It all depends what you mean by romantic. I think Chile would be a great destination for a honeymoon anniversary. You cuold do a boat trip in the fjords, in the deep south. A few days in Valparaiso, a several days horse ride in the Andes mountains, in Cajon del Maipo, just above Santiago, or wandering around the lake district, with its superb volcanos and lakes.
You could also spend some time in the wine region, in some beautiful estates, engjoying good food and wine.

Please tell me if you need more info.

Jeremie, thanks for your reply. I am still juggling 6 different countries for our 25th anniversary trip. I don't want to buy any guidebooks til I decide on a country!

I am wondering if the accomodations in Chile will be luxurious enough for what I desire for a 25th anniversary trip. I'm not always that picky, but I do like being spoiled for an anniversary...very nice room with comfortable big bed and gorgeous view, etc...I don't want to rough-it for an anniversary. Though the scenery in Chile seems gorgeous, especially photos I've seen of Torres del Paine area...

I was considering Australia but I think it's too hot in January.

I am considering New Zealand though flights from LAX or San Diego to New Zealand are over 17 hours or longer including layovers! Yikes!

Was considering Fiji and Tahiti but seems like islands like that are so overpriced in January. Hawaii is much closer to San Diego too!!!

WEll thanks for listening!

Hi Melissa ...we are in the process of booking our trip to Chile for January and have found some lovely 4 and 5 star hotels in very romantic locations. We also decided against Australia and NZ in January..because it is high season...so busy and hot.

Melissa you might want to check this web site:

Maybe too luxurious!

Hi Melissa,

Sorry for the slow response. I just came back from India where I've spent fantastic holidays. Given yoru requirement for excellent accomodation, I could only recommend Rajasthan. There are truly superb palaces, as very affordable prices, that would be great for a honeymoon anniversary.
If interested, let me know I can tell you more.
In the meantime, I've started posting on Rajasthan on my blog, if interested.

Mincepie and Melissa5:

Don't miss out on the Hotel Antumalal on Lake Villa Rice near Pucon...most romantic hotel in the country..we loved it....Also, the Hacienda Los Lingues horsefarm, ranch and resort halfway between Santiago and the Lake District..marvelous experience.

above...that's Lake Villa Rica, of course...another lovely little hotel on the shores of beautiful Lake Llanquihue in the town of Frutillar is the Kleine Salzburg Inn...(big German/Austrian population thereabouts)
We stayed in all of these wonderful places and found Chile to be the best kept secret in the Western Hemishpere. Shhhh!
