Photography Restrictions at Chichen Itza
 

I've heard that there are certain restrictions when photographing the Mayan Ruins (Chichen Itza). Has anybody had any problems taking photos at this site with a tripod? Has anybody had any hassles with the amount of film brought into Mexico? I've heard I am limited to 12 rolls (not enough) and one camera body. My photo gear I planned to bring with was one camera, 4 lenses, tripod, accessories, and an underwater disposable camera. Can anybody offer any advise? Do I bother bringing my tripod and carrying it around if I'm not allowed to use it or need to pay some kind of fee? Thanks!

I have taken extensive photos in the ruins at Chichen on two accaisions. The most recent trip was in Jan of 2,000. There were no restrictions about taking pix. Some of the ruins cannot be climbed on and you could not use a flash inside the Piramide Kulkulcan to photograph the Jaguar Throne. You could shoot in available light. I got some very good images, that way. I usually carry tons of film with me, and I have never been asked to show my camera equipment while going through Mexican Customs. Hope this helps.
