phone numbers--Buenos Aires

What does Rot. mean after a phone number?

Here's the story: A friend recommended the Hotel Prince ( http://www.princehotel.com.ar/ ) as an inexpensive solution to where to stay for my first 2 nights in Argentina. She's stayed there a few times and was quite happy.

I emailed them, and they emailed back and confirmed availability. So now I'd like to make a reservation. Despite the Reserva button their site, you can't make a reservation online (you get an email address).

I've emailed them twice about making the reservation, with no response. I could call, but I'm not sure what "Rot." means after the phone number.

So what does Rot. mean? And is it common that when it comes to making reservations, that email goes unanswered?

Hi, Cindy!

"Rot" stands for "Rotativas", meaning they have several phone lines.

If your friend was "quite happy", I guess the hotel must be OK, but I would hesitate to reserve in a place which does not reply to a reservation request.

I believe this reference is to a land line vs cel phone, which requires a different dialing sequence...in any case....by dialing 011-54-11-4811-8004 you should make contact without problem. I have been by this hotel several times and wondered about it..if you stay, please post a review.

Doc: does 011 get you into international, when calling from the US? I thought it would be 00.

yes, 011 is how we access international from usa

Great, so drdawggy was right, as usual.

Thank you, rhkkmk.

I noticed that OO gets you to international from several countries but from the US is 011, as 1 is for US long distance calls ( Canada too) plus the area code, while in the other countries is 0.

Thanks to avrooster for the explanation!
I called the hotel today, they took my last name and when I wanted to stay, and I have a reservation. I'm supposed to call them a week before arrival with the confirmation code to confirm. Seems very informal.
Here's hoping it all works out!
