Phone cards in Cancun and Playa del Carmen - to Australia
Hi there,
we will be in Mexico mid January and are wondering where the best places to purchase phone cards are?
We will be making calls back to Australia?
Are the instructions in English?
Thanks for your help

Phone cards can be bought at any convenience store (7/11, Oxxo, etc) and many kiosks that sell beverages and sweets - they are actually very easy to obtain and use.
Some have written instructions in english, depends on the type you get. If you get the basic ones for public phones, you don't even need instructions, it's so easy to use. Just find a public phone, stick the card in, wait for the dial tone, and dial your number (0, then country code first). Really so easy, and so much cheaper than hotel calls.

I'm just thrilled to hear you are going to Mexico! It's a wonderful place, especially if you can get away from the touristy areas. You'll find the people are very kind there, and willing to help you if you have any problems. And as Graziella mentioned, hotels charge multiples of what you pay with a phone card, so this is great planning on your part.

As above- you can by Ladatel phone cards most anywhere. The larger the denomination the bigger discount you get. In other words your get more than twice the ammoung of time buyig a 100 pesos card verses two 50 peso cards. Stick the card in the Ladatel phone and dial direct- country code then number. There is a digital display that shows how much time you are using. If you can speak enough Spanish to give the number you are calling, there are much cheaper cards you can buy. You call the number on your card, input the code on the card and you get an operator who you give the number to that will connect you. These are the best deal.

Dude,
don't speak any spanish so will have to go with the Ladatel phone cards.
You said they are sold everywhere.
It sounds like the 100 peso one would be the way to go.
Are the Ladatel phones clearly marked?
It is good that the display lets you know how much time you have used up
Any other tips would be appreciated.
Thanks
