Peru-phone home
Leaving for Peru Sunday and just found out the MCI card does not work from there to USA. Any thoughts on calling cards or options?

It's been a long time since I traveled to Peru so this may be obsolete. In order to place a phone call you had to go to a telephone center - a place with telephones that could connect you to an international operator. Are you sure that MCI doesn't have a number that you are supposed to call? You might also be able to pay at the center with a regular credit card.
I found this on the website: Peru 0-800-50010 There is a footnote, but can't find those listed. ~gnr~ |
Found the footnotes: Wait for second dial tone.
Have a great trip. ~gnr~ |

I visited Peru last february and found out that it is "REALLY" cheap to use the internet cafes that you can find just about everywhere, at least one every couple of blocks, not the hotel ones, though. Most of the attendants will manage to understand english (they are on the "net" all day!) and I made calls to the U.S., Australia for pennies a minute. They'll advertise their rates at the front door, in soles. $1 U.S. = about $3.40 soles. To access the U.S. all you have to do is dial as if you were here, 1-area code-prefix-4 last digits. Good luck and have fun!
