Patagonia or Salta
Hi Everyone,
If you had to choose between going to Patagonia or the Salta region in January, which would you choose and why. What are the highlights of each area? Thank you very much! |
I would go South, at that time of the year. Main drawback: high holiday season, with many local tourists.
For the rest, I suggest a little more research. |
I would go to Torres del Paine in Patagonia.
|
Patagonia no contest!
|
OK, go to PAtagonia and miss Salta but you will regret... Or get a excuse to come back. Jan is our rainny season but not bad, the rains are fast and the weather is better than in BA.
Warm regards. F |
January is ideal for Patagonia. The weather is at its mildest, and all the babies are out and about (e.g. guanaco, penguins).
|
We have baby vicuñas at that time...
Ok, Ok, next time North West. Flintstones |
When is the best time to go to Salta?
|
I like it in our winter.
|
What's the weather like then?
|
Any time, ANY... believe me, there are reviews of people who habe been in SAlta in January, February, MArch...
When in BA it is impossible to breath SAlta has cool nights even in summer, the weather is like in SAn Francisco... Eternal Springtime! It is a mith that Salta is impossible in summer, the weather is dry and of course, if you stay sitting in the sunshine it is hot, but really pleasant in the shade. Besides you know altitude makes the difference also, each 100 mts, l degree less... Salta is at 1187, almost 3500ft... But if anyway you want t know the best time it is from April to November. You only run the risk of falling in love with this area... Warm regards, Flintstones |
nice salta thread! we will be in mendoza in january, and were in bariloche last year. is salta similar to one or the other? we love small towns and great mountain scenery. what are the big "draws" in salta, please?
|
Thanks.

Haven't been to Salta but have been to Pantagonia and it's amazing. Torres del Paine is also easily accessible for El Calafate is absolutely beautiful.

Oh, Salta is incredible! Colourful mountains, and when I mean colourful it means colourful all the colours, not only red... Wonderful formations and great wines... Salt Flats and very varied landscape. Completelly different to any place you have been before. The town is typical spanish colonial architecture and the churches are beautiful. The Music and the nightlife is also different to the rest of the country. If you have seen pics like this before maybe those look no real...
