Passport Needed for Mexico?

Will I have problems travelling to Mexico with just a birth certificate and photo Driver's Licence? Will a laminated birth certificate be acceptable to officials?? I've heard a "raised crest" is required.
Thanks,
Teresa

A laminated birth certificate WILL NOT be acceptable. It has to be an original with a raised seal or a certified copy. They would question as to why it was laminated. If this is your original, it would be better and easier to get a certified copy with which to travel. Better safe than sorry. In the near future, a passport will be required to travel to Mexico, but not at the present.

Hope this helps and have a great trip!

Agree with the above. US citizens need drivers license PLUS original birth certificate. If you are uncertain call your airlines (because they will be the first ones checking your paperwork before you even get on the plane).

Can you tell me how to get the following:

1. Birth certificate with raised seal
2. Passport

Thanks

look in the phone book under passports and for the birth certificate call the county courthouse where you were born and ask for the birth records dept. They should be able to tell you what you need to do and how much it will cost to get your birth certificate.

Pam:

If you live in the U.S. go to the State Departments web site (http://www.state.gov)they have a section on passports. They can explain how to get one, and you can also print off the forms, this saves you from going out to get them. I used this site to get the forms to renew my passport.

For a birth certificate, check your states website-they will almost certainly offer a way to get a certified
birth certificate via the internet site.
While not required, I always recommend a passport--nothing else affords the protection of a U.S. passport to a citizen abroad.

A license and an offical birth certificate with a raised seal is technically o.k. Practically you now neeed a passport. You need it in airports, you need it to cash travelers checks, and it will speed up any security check point immenseley. Go ahead and get one.

Once you get the birth certificates, the main branch of the post office in your nearest city is where you can make application for passports- unless your city has an actual passport office, i.e. Seattle, New York, etc. Usually takes four to five weeks. You can pay extra for a rush job.
