Passport Issues
 

Traveling to Mexico tomorrow and my passport didn't arrive in time. Wondering if I will be okay with an expired passport and a drivers license. Also have a COPY of my birth cert. and social security card.<BR><BR>will I be able to get in and out? Anyone know?

You can travel anywhere in Mexico with your driver's license and birth certificate. A passport is unnecessary, and I would NOT bring along the social security card, since that is not something you would want to misplace.<BR><BR>I did find out when I confirmed our flight, that they wanted to know which (passport or birth cert.) we would be using, and asked for our dates of birth - the lady said if I did not know my husband's DOB, I would need to call her back after getting it. Since I knew it, there was no call-back necessary.<BR><BR>If you have not confirmed your flight, do that now - you may need to give the same info.<BR>-M

Is your birth certificate a certified copy with a rasied seal? If so, that will get you entry along with a current driver's license with photo. If not, the items you mention will not grant you entry. Things are getting much tighter- your documents will be scrutinezed to board your flight, at mexican immigration, and again at U.S. Customs on return. You need to have the right documents.

How about for married women who have changed their last names upon getting married? The name on the birth certificate does not match the name on the driver's license. Would that be a problem?

Last time I went to Mexico I didn't have my passport yet, so I had a birth certificate and my driver's license. I brought along my marriage license just in case, since my name is now different. Other than the line for non-passport holders being longer at the airport, there was NO problem. The marriage license wasn't necessary.

Even if they didn't ask for the marriage license that time, it doesn't hurt to bring it just in case if there has been a name change.

Well since Courtney, our OP, left last Friday, can't help but wonder if she made it in (and back out) with the papers she had.

Forget about using a social security card as it says nothing about citizenship (non citizens can get a SS card and must sometimes).
