panama canal cruise

WE TOOK A CRUISE THRU THE PANAMA CANAL SEVERAL YEARS AGO. TRY TO PICK UP A BOOK ON THE CONSTRUCTION AND/OR HISTORY OF THE CANAL AND READ IT BEFORE YOU
GO. IT WILL ADD IMMEASURABLY TO YOUR APPRECIATION OF YOUR CRUISE.

My husband and I spent 9 months in Panama recently. We did not take a cruise, but we did lots of other things around the canal. If you are going to have a day or more to get off the boat and sight -see, write us back and we'll give you some suggestions.

Hi Ken and Barbara, ( think that are your names)
Thanks for the reply to my posting about the Panama
Canal cruise. And I will take your advice about getting a book and reading about the construction,
ect. We are not going till next fall, but are
eagerly awaiting it. Thanks again, Bruce

Did the west to east route through the canal in 95 on RCCL Legend Of The Seas. It was awesome!!! We liked it so much that we are going though it again this November, the other way on the same ship. I recommend that you get up early the morning that you enter the canal and plan to stay on deck the entire 8 hr. journy though this unbeleavable structure. Also bring plenty ofphoto film!!!

I cruised through the canal in March of 1996. Went from San Juan PR to Alcapulco, Mex. It took from about 7:30 am to 4:30 pm to clear through the canal. I suggest binoculars and one of those (it can be cheap) cameras w/a panoramic lens. One day before the canal and three days after the canal were spent at sea. I enjoyed listening to books on audio tape. No need to fight glare like I would have if I'd been reading. We cruised on the Royal Carribean lines, "The Love Boat". It's the only cruise I've ever taken and it's a perfect way to see the canal. Enjoy.

We'll be seeing the Panama Canal and islands off both coasts on an ACCL cruise in January. After the cruise, we want to spend a few days in Boquete or Cerro Punta region, but we understand you can't make reservations for flights north to David. Any tips?
