Pacific heat

We stayed at Playa Nicuesa, on the Golfo Dulce, two years ago. I found the heat extremely oppressive. I'm wondering if it is any cooler at the lodges on the Pacific beaches. Can anyone tell me?

It's more so in the "summer" (dry) months. We usually spend time in the central and north Pacific in June, July, and August. During this time, the afternoon showers make a big difference and the temps drop into the low 80's/upper 70's at night. Quite bearable.

Last summer I was really comfortable all day long down on the Osa at Bosque del Cabo--up on that bluff with the ocean breezes and the nighttime rains. The previous March--whew!

In the dry season, the beach is just HOT, anywhere you go in the tropics.

That is a pretty hot and humid area.

We find that most of the lodges along the Pacific coast that are built up a little higher are more comfortable because they get the breezes.

Thanks everyone! I was hoping to hear of lower temps and ocean breezes. That gives me hope. I want to be sure I understand correctly though. The green season is actually cooler than the dry??? That seems counterintuitive. I thought the increased humidity would make it just that much worse. Not so?

Sadly, BDC is out of my budget. Can you mention any other lodges that have the advatages of an elevated location? Thanks!

There are several at Manuel Antonio. Costa Verde comes to mind--the Studio Plus rooms have fabulous views--and AC (unless you are in Costa Verde II). Very good bang for your buck!

And yes, the afternoon showers that frequently occur during the rainy season do cool things down a bit, plus there is more cloud cover during the day.

The Caribbean side tends to be a bit cooler also--low to mid 80's typically during most of the year. More rain generally (this area doesn't really adhere to the dry/rainy pattern and it can rain anytime), but generally lower temps, year round.

We stayed at Mango Moon in Manuel Antonio, and they had ac. You might check it out and see if it interests you.

Even during the dry season, there's some variation. March and April are the hottest months. Coming at the end of the dry season, when it hasn't rained in weeks, things can get pretty hot and dusty. Those are actually my least favorite months to go the coast. January and, especially, December are cooler. Some of the local people even call it "chilly."

The Golfo Dulce is just hot though.

Thanks once again ! Everyone is always so helpful here. I do love the Carribean side... just thought I should branch out to the Pacific. Just a personal preference, but, I really don't care to have AC in my room. It just makes the heat even more oppressive when I go out. Give me a fan any time. But, I will check out the lodgings you suggested. Again, Thanks!

I can't really handle the heat and was a bit worried about going in February. But we had the absolute best weather. I don't know if it is usually that way but we went Feb. 3 thru the 12th. It got slightly warm in Arenal and Cano Negro but in the shade it was cool enough or when the sun went behind the clouds. We were so lucky...didn't rain once and beautiful weather.
