Overwater bungalows in Panama?
 

I have been looking and looking for overwater bungalows in Panama. I know that they exist, but I have only been able to find a website for one (http://www.puntacaracol.com). Unfortunately, they do not accept credit cards and want a bank transfer for 100% of the amount as a "deposit". Therefore, I am looking for other alternatives. I would like some place very secluded for under $300 per night.

PS - I am also willing to look at Honduras as well, if there are any overwater bungalows there.

Since tourism is new in Panama, and many places are not set up to accept credit cards, you'll find it's normal to ask for cash payment up front. They're not trying to scam you, that's just the way things are often done here.

I have found a way around the direct cash payment problem. I simply booked through a travel agent, which allowed me to use a credit card and preserve my peace of mind.

We booked for five nights at the bungalows and are very excited about our choice.

I used the agent listed in this year's Conde Nast as the "Panama Expert", which is Meg North with Brownell Travel (www.brownelltravel.com). However, it turned out that she was actually using a subcontractor, a company called Panama Travel Experts (www.panamatravelexperts.com). If I were you, I would just go direct to the source and use PTE. I talked with PTE on a regular basis regarding my trip and I was happy with their service.

Such accomodations exist in both the San Blas Islands (operated by the Cuna Indians) and in Boca del Toros. Sorry I don't have a website for you. Contact Lost World Adventures and perhaps they can handle the booking for you. I have travelled with them in the past and they are very capable.
