Other Caribbean resorts similar to Victoria House?

My husband and I took a short trip to Victoria House on Ambergris Caye last month and absolutely adored it. I am dying to go back, but my husband would like to find somewhere new but very similar. We loved the wonderful service, beautiful setting, and friendly atmosphere at VH (and fabulous food!). We also loved the fact that though it is not actually an adults-only resort, there were no children there during our stay.
Our favorite things about Ambergris itself were the friendly people, gorgeous clear bathtub-warm water, laid-back feel, great restaurants, and a lively downtown that felt safe even at night as we rode around in our golf cart (another favorite!).

So, can anyone recommend somewhere similar in the Caribbean? We are open to any suggestions except Jamaica (been there, done that!). Thanks so much!

Caroline

can't help you, but thanks for the review of Victoria House! You've really got me interested...
I'm a big Mexico fan...have you been to Playa del Carmen?

There are many Caribbean resorts that are in the same mold. Look at upscale properties in the BVI, Barbados and Anguilla as starting points. Most will be more expensive than Victoria House, however.

Villa Rolandi on Isla Mujeres meets those expectations exactly, but it is more expensive too.

Thanks, y'all! I am definitely going to take a look at the places you mentioned. Cost isn't a huge issue, we're more concerned with finding paces with that wonderful, lazy, fun, Corona commercial feel. And more along the lines of small boutique resorts. To answer your question, Frankie, I have been to Mexico quite a few times (going back to Cabo in December, actually!), and it's one of my favorites as well. I've looked into places all over the Caribbean, but am just not sure which ones really are the most similar to Victoria House. I've heard wonderful things about Anguilla, but am really looking for places a bit more lush. Maybe in the Grenadines?

I think Bequia in the Grenadines may be just what you are looking for! We have been to Belize also and went to Bequia last Feb. We stayed at the Plantation House which had just reopened. It is a small, lovely hotel which is right on the beautiful bay, has A/C and is walking distance to town. Bequia is a beautiful island with charming people. Take the day trip to Tobago Cays; most beautiful place I have been so far. Bequia is a bit tough to get to and, so, more expensive but definitely worth it. You fly to Barbados and then take an express (we took SVG Air) to Bequia.
