orquideas inn

Has any one stayed at this property? Looking for an affordable nice hotel to start and end my CR vacation in august.

We just spent the first and last nights of our 2 week trip there. I cannot say enough nice things about Orquideas Inn. It has the nicest, friendliest staff you will ever meet. It has a really nice pool that looks out over the mountains. The rooms are basic but in bright colors with A/C and clean. I recommend staying in a room facing the garden or the mountains. The breakfast is included and very tasty. We had lunch and dinner there and they were very good as well. Gary, the owner, takes a personal interest. Erich, the manager, and Leonardo, a staff member, are extremely helpful. They make phone calls, arrangements, etc. for you. Returning on our last day was like going home. If you request, for $10 they will pick you up at the airport. On request, our driver stopped at a bank and helped us exchange dollars for colones. Orquideas is a great choice. I am writing a report on our 2 week stay now so you might be interested in reading it. Enjoy your stay. Pura Vida.

Message to marion2,
Thanks for your description of Las Orquideas. I just made reservations there for our last 2 nights of our trip to CR in August. How many were in your group and what size room did you have? There are 4 of us & I reserved the deluxe mountain view room with 2 double beds. I think it should be large enough for 4; we spend very little time in our room & like to save money for tours and eating.

Thanks marion2. Sounds like a good place. Will be waiting for that trip report. I am assuming that one can get a rental car brought to the hotel as I heard some rental angencies will do that for nearby hotels.

Kwoo, there were only 2 of us in the room. The first night of the trip, there were 2 double beds and 2 single bed in the room. The room was crowded but fine for us. The last night our room had 2 double beds. I am not familiar with the room you have chosen. I do know that you will enjoy your stay, the staff, and the breakfast. Do tell Gary (owner) we said hello.

Koa, Dollar Rental picked us up at the hotel later in the day as we requested for no charge. That way we could stay at the pool all day on our last day. There is a rental car company functioning out of the hotel. I think it is Adobe but I do not know anything about them. You may want to email Erich, the manager and ask him. He is very helpful. My report was posted. Feel free to ask more questions.

Just returned from CR last week, stayed in 2 deluxe rooms first night after arriving at SJO, party of 6 adults, plenty of room. Excellent choice, great breakfast, lovely views of the mountains and valleys.

I've stayed at Orquideas several times and love it, and the staff. Yes, Orquideas uses Adobe Rental Cars, as well as others. We have used Adobe as manyhh times as we have stayed at Orquideas and have never had a probelm with them. They will deliver and pick up at the hotel.

I spent a few days there in Feb. I had a great time going out for the day with Luis who is one of the tour people that works out of the Inn (I believe it is Wady Tours). I had a great time at the bar and made lots of friends. The food was very good.

Can anyone recommend any day tours from the inn. Is Zoo ave. worth it? Any other tours in the area?

marion2 Apr 8th, 2004 06:31 AM

If you email Erich, manager of the Inn, he will answer that question. It was less than an hour to La Paz Waterfalls and Poas Volcano and I'm sure you can get rides to the Inn for both though I have no idea of cost. I would suspect that there are other places you could go within an hour but Erich would know.

I pretty much designed my own day. I wanted to go horseback riding so they came up with a beautiful ride in the mountains just above Grecia. I also wanted to go to Sarchi we did that. Luis suggested we visit Grecia and I just fell in love with that little city.
We just played it by ear. They offer several types of "tours" that they designed as well as the usual. They said they would take me just about anywhere I wanted to go. The charge for the day including the horseback riding was $100.
