Orlando: private driver

Hi,
Anyone who has used Orlando Vargas as a private driver...I emailed him about a week and a half ago to see if he had availability and to check on his prices, but haven't heard back. Did you experience the same thing? Here is the email I used...please correct me if it is wrong.
[email protected]
thanks

We have sent him several emails as well and haven't heard from him. I read that other people were having trouble getting through to some people. We have been using him for at least 4 years and it isn't like him to not answer. Maybe he is being swamped by emails since CRIdo wrote her trip report :-).

We called him a little over a week ago so maybe you can reach him that way. Orlando cell # 011-506-385-2355 He speaks excellent english. I suggest buying a phone card locally because it is cheaper to call.

Thanks,
I've never called an international number before. Do I just dial it exactly as you've written? I know...it sounds like a silly question

Suzie2 May 7th, 2007 12:08 PM

It isn't silly at all. There should be instructions in your regular phone book as well.

That is exactly how we dialed it.

Sounds like something is wrong with his e-mail -- one of the main reasons we choose him (besides Suzie's reviews of him) was how responsive he was to every e-mail & his excellent english

lutherkins:

The number of: 011-506-385-2355 means this

For internatiuonal calls you have to use YOUR country code first.
So your country code is 1
But you use the prefix of 01 before the country code.
so you have 011
next
506 is the country code of Costa Rica.
next
Costa Rica has NO area code, so no matter where you are in Costa Rica you just pick up the phone and dial.
next

the number 385 2355 is Orlando home or cell number.
that is why you dial:
011- 506- 385 2355.
Now if you were in Costa Rica and wanting to call home you would do this:

1. Costa Rica country code first( 506)
2. Your country code ( 011)
3. Your area code( Costa Rica does not have one but you do!)
4. Your home number

To call the US from Costa Rica, I believe you dial 001 plus the number, including area code.

Percy May 7th, 2007 07:51 PM

crchica

You could be right about that 001!

I just cannot recall what country code I dialed when I was in Costa Rica.

If you find out for sure let me know.

And if you are sure then let me know anyway !!!

Take Care
Percy

Hi,
We are in CR now. To dial to Canada or US, you dial 001 and then the area code and then the number.

Also,
we have been connectng to the Internet via dialup. We have done it before and it has never been this bad. Some pages just don't want to load and others take lots of trys.

This morning I have tried about 10 times to get into my Yahoo mail and just can not. I mention this because I see Orlando is using a Yahoo address. Maybe he is experiencing similar issues.

Pura Vida,
raquel

Thank you Raquel. I was starting to get worried because it is so unlike him. Sounds like it is more than the electricity that is acting up.

Ahhh Pura Vida

I was able to get a hold of Orlando by phone yesterday. He sounded surprised that I had emailed him almost 2 weeks ago, but was very helpful on the phone. Thanks for the help.

Suzie2 May 9th, 2007 02:18 PM

I'm glad you were able to get ahold of him.

We still haven't had a e mail back from him so maybe there were some dropped emails?

We will resend ours just in case.

fishee May 10th, 2007 11:00 PM

Orlando just got back to me via email -- took about 36 hours -- so he's reachable again.

We're probably going with Luis Chinchilla as a driver although Oscar and Leo are also available (in addition to Orlando) and so there are no shortage of drivers!
