Ojochal???

I have seen a lot on these boards about Dominical and Manuel Antonio, but seen very little about this little town. I recently purchased a trip, and was hoping to stay here. I do, however, want to see much of what Costa Rica has to offer. To anyone that has been here, or traveled the country before, what would I be missing if I used this as my home base, and skipped Monteverde/Arenal? Is there canopy tours, good wildlife, ect........Thanks!!!!!

We have travelled extensively in Costa Rica, and have decided to put roots down in Ojochal for 2 weeks in a rental house next February. While visiting that area earlier this year, I was very impressed with the relative lack of tourism compared to other areas of Costa Rica. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Ojochal itself is a small little town, but there are a variety of great restaurants (many french Canadians have settled in that area) and you have access to some fabulous beaches, mostly deserted. There are wonderful waterfall spots to hike to in the area. Where were you thinking of staying?

We are thinking about staying at villas gaia.....not terribly interested in how nice the hotel is, I just want to make sure I will be away from the masses, while still being able to do the fun stuff. I was also wondering if anyone has taken a fishing charter from here before?

We stayed just south of Dominical in a beautiful villa and traveled to Ojochal one day. We had dinner at Exotica and it was really good. Ojochal is tiny but it's centrally located to Dominical, Uvita, and places south.

There is a zipline at Osa Mountain Village:

I don't know your budget but if you truly want to be away from the masses, rent a villa. Also, if I can make a suggestion, forget your "nice" vacation clothes. Wear loose comfortable clothes and bathing suits. That's all you need.

You might try posting your question about Ojochal on lonely planet.com's Thorn Tree forum for Costa Rica. Think they have a regular poster who has a house in Ojochal - and several others who post re surfing. . .

I suggest you definitively go to Arenal, you won't regret, but remember to go on the dry season, as in the rainy season you might not see it. Here is a great review of Arenal. Enjoy http://www.hoteltraveltour.com/costa...-alajuela.html
