Occidental Nuevo Vallarta

Any info on this hotel never been to an all
inclusive before worried abput the food, service, drinks. Any info would be helpful. Also never been to Puerto Vallarta
during the end of November. How is the weather then?

The weather is usually fine by Thanksgiving time. Nuevo is about 1/2 hour north of PV "proper" (maybe you already know this).

Can't help more as I spend alot of time in puerto vallarta, but stay downtown & never done an AI myself either.

You might want to post over on the BB at www.puertovallarta.net, there are lots of people with good knowledge of the resort hotels on that board.

just got back from occidental Nuevo Vallarta, and it was the best vacation we ever had. (7 lbs heavier). The food was amazing and the service, the best. They rate it 4 star, but it definitly deserves a 5. The only thing I'd warn you about, is the people pestering for time shares. Just say no. Tell them you dont have a credit card, and they'll leave you alone.
The weather was hot, but we had a fantastic time. (No rain) November is hurricane season, and they got it last year, so you might want to consider going sooner. Alot of good deals now.
If you want me to send you some pics, my e-mail, is [email protected].
Just let me know.
I got up the nerve to do the para-sailing on the beach, and it was fantastic. They were asking 35, but we paid 25. It was worth it.
Took the jungle town tour, and saw elizabeth taylors and richard burtons house. They'll take you through it for $ 8.00. Rythyms of the night was amazing and so worth the money. Let me know, and i'll answer any questions you have.

Thanks for the info re:food, how were the rooms and were they all ocean view?
Iwould like to know about the 2 ala carte restaurants Did you try them?

lucky Jun 23rd, 2003 02:18 PM

The ala carte was delicious. So is the buffet. We tried the mexican, but didnt have a chance to try the italian. Heard nothing but good about though.
The rooms are done mexican style. Very nice. Marble floors, shower, lots of hangers for your clothes, coffee maker. If you want to order breakfast in your rooms, thats included.
Id recommend the ground floor. The first day, we had a room on the 5 th floor, and didnt like it. It was a ocean room view, but the window didnt open, and there are no balconys on the upper levels. (feel closed in). Noisy up there too. We transfered to the ground floor on the second day, and loved the room. Much nicer, ocean view, and we had large patio doors, and a table and chairs to sit outside. Much quiter too. The view was beautiful! The service was spectacular. The waiters at the buffet even lite my husbands cigarettes, everyday. Everyone was so nice. didnt come across one rude person working there. They really go all out for you. That really makes a difference between a good trip and a bad one. Just wanted to let you know, my husband and I travel alot, so we've got a lot to compare with as far as resorts and trips go. I tried e-mailing you some pics, but the e-mail kept getting bounced back.

HI! We just returned from the Occidental Monday night. While everyone that worked there was amazingly nice & helpful, I could not say it was a great resort. We did not think the food was very good at all- besides breakfast & the Mexican night. Several nights we opted to go out on our own b/c the food was really bad. They do pour strong drinks- I'll give them that!! Also, there were a lot, & i mean A LOT, of kids. We could not even get into the pool the Friday we arrived.
I agree with "lucky" that you can hear everything going on- the walls are very thin.
The best part for us was renting the jet skis- it's so worth the money!!
All said, we did have a good time & met a lot of nice people, but I can't say that we would return to this resort.

Just my .02!

can you tell me anything else about the room what floor were you on? The first review agreed that the 5th floor was noisy also so they moved to the 1st floor. any more info would help. We have already book and given a deposit. If the food is not good we will go to town and eat. This willbe my first all-inclusive and I am very apprehensive.

Besides going into downtown PV for site seeing & great food/restaurants, you can also head to Bucerias, a small town to the north of Nuevo & quite a bit closer with some nice restaurants.

We were on the 5th floor, but we talked to other people on different floors & it was just as loud.
I wouldn't be apprehensive about the AI- it really is a good deal, I think, b/c you don't have to worry about carrying your wallet everywhere. They do have a snack bar that serves burgers & such during the day, so that's always an option.
We walked to Fajita Republic, a mexican restaurant in Nuevo. It was great! The service & the food were oustanding. Check it out if you decide to leave the resort.
