You must go see Roy at the Red Frog coffee roaster in La Fortuna. BEWARE, three doors down on the other side is a restaurant named Rana Roja. Some jerk opened a place down the road from Roy's place after he opened. They gave their place the same name as Roy's because Roy was so well known and liked.

Roy had to change his name to the English translation, Red Frog. If you are traveling from Arenal to La Fortuna, the Red Frog is on the right side of the road just as you enter the busy/touristy area of La Fortuna.

His sign reads a little funny and you think it's a souvenir shop at first glance. Don't miss it. Roy is a great character and wants to make sure you get your coffee and meal they way you like it. He roasts fresh CR beans on site and the coffee is great.

We ordered the smoked beef empanada. When we both took our first bites our eyes rolled and we thought we were in heaven. It really is that good. Don't miss the Red Frog and definitely do not go to the Rana Roja down the street!
