Camino Real interior Club Room vs Parador San Miguel... Prices are very different. Is Camino Real better and worth the price difference? (Casa Oaxaca and most of the cool little B&Bs are already booked) Quiet room is important to us. Thanks!

We stayed in an interior club room at Camino Real last February and loved it.Extremely quiet,elegant,wonderful service. The hotel was atmospheric beyond our expectations. I can't speak to the Parador San Miguel, but the Camino Real was a very special experience. We stay at top rated hotels all over the world, and this hotel is high on our list to return to.

Camino Real is in a better location. At this point Oaxaca is full of really nice places. If you don't like what you get on arrival, go find something else.

We stayed at (and loved) Casa Cid de Leon. It is a former colonial mansion turned into four very atmospheric guest units. We (husband, wife, son) had the Family Suite which was amazing--two levels and opening up to the rooftop garden terrace. It was in the $150 range with breakfast. If you need a Hilton-type sameness, don't come here. It has a ton more charm (but not funky) than most. My husband reminds me to tell you to bring cash if possible--you'll get a better deal, around 10% off.
One of the units has no windows at all which apparently some people like (total quiet) but that would drive me nuts. The upstairs units would definitely be my first choice.

We walked through the Camino Real a couple times. I'm sure it's lovely, but the one thing that struck us right away was that none of the staff smiled. To me, it had that imposing feel. Yes, it's got a great history, but overall it felt cold to me (maybe all that cold cash?). It's definitely the spot for the well-heeled crowd.
