Oaxaca Help for single female
Planning a last minute weeklong trip to Oaxaca City by myself. Did some homework. Las Bugambilias seems to be the logding of choice, but $45 a night is out of my budget unfortunately esp since I really want to take some cooking classes. Any recommendations for a safe clean quiet room with attached bath near the zoccalo below $30? Thanks.

Thanks, will check it out.

Try La casas de la tia. They have a website. It is 2 blocks from the Zocalo. Nothing special, but clean with private baths. That close to the Zocalo I don't think you are going to do any better. If you want to radiate out a few blocks from the Historic Center it is easy to find places in your price range. Another suggestion, can the people doing the cooking classes set up a home stay? I often do that in Oaxaca. It is very inexpensive and makes the whole experience more interesting. Good luck.

Thanks, dude. The cooking class I am eyeing is affliated with Las Bugambilias who's cheapest room for one is $45, out of my budget. I will check out your recommendation.

Hi tangwah, I took the same cooking classes, you are right ,the classes are giving by the Chef of La Olla the rest. in front of las Buganvilias.
How about the same place where classes are given, I forgot the name? We stayed in Las Bungavillas and loved it. May be it was called Casa de Sabores, but I am not sure. |
Hi Graziella,
decided on a single room w/o bath at Casa Arnel for $10. That way I can take more cooking classes which are surprisingly expensive. How did you find the cooking class, was it useful? I have been trying to cook mexican using cookbooks but not successfully. I can cook chinese italian and french cuisine fairly decently. Another cooking class I am considering is with El Naranjo, know anything about it? thanks. |
I enjoyed the classes. The Naranjo is one of the most wellknown rest. in town but I enjoyed more eating at La Olla. Wow...$10 dollars sounds may be a little too inexpensive, did you have any information on the place?

I think it's a last minute fill up the room deal. It was recommended on the lonely planet chatsite and the tripadvisor reviewers all said it was very clean (most important) and had friendly staff. But it's a 15 minute walk to the zocalo. I was so tempted to stay a couple of nights at Camino Real for $125 nett but that's 4 cooking classes!! Leaving tomorrow, most excited.
