Oaxaca beaches
Which is your favorite? which are the least crowded?

The only ones I know well are around Hautulco. The bays with their beaches are, generally, uncrowded and beautiful. The downside is that Huatulco is a falied attempt at a New Cancun. Most lodging is quite expensive and food not too great. We bused down from Oaxaca city and found that it definateley isn't a place for a discount vacation. Our friends that live in Oaxaca City say that Puerto Escondido and the beaches in that area are wonderful, laid back, and an inexpensive area to be in. The only downside is people in Oaxaca City have told me you need to be careful in that area and that there have been robberies. I am planning to go to Escondido this summer anyway. I know you can travel there very cheaply on a delux bus from the second class terminal by the Abastos market in Oaxaca City in a little more than five hours.

thanks Dude - what do you think of this:

4 days - DF, with a day trip to Teotihuacan and maybe Tula too.
overnight bus to Oaxaca City.
2-3 days - Oaxaca City, day trip to Monte Alban and maybe Mitla or Yagul
overnight but to Puerto Escondido
2-3 days in Puerto Escondido.
bus to Zihuatanejo
2-3 days in Zihuatanejo
bus to Acapulco
2-3 days in Acapulco
bus to DF, maybe a couple of more days there
plane home

So that's about three weeks, i may cut down to add to it as my plans for August firm up.

I'm trying to get back to DF without doubling back through Oaxaca - is there a better option besides Acapulco?

I have been to a few beaches in Oaxaca.

Puerto Escondido is a great place. I would suggest staying on Playa Zicatela in Puerto Escondido.

I have also been to Puerto Angel and Zipolite.

I would suggest Escondido.

thanks, TunaTaco! it seems that Puerto Escondido is cheaper and transportation is easier around there, so i appreciate the positive feedback.
