any info about camino real hotel in oaxaca city would be helpfull

Is that the older hotel that used to be a convent? It looked amazing when we were there a few years ago.

The Camino Real is indeed the hotel that used to be a convent. It looks like a spectacular place to stay, though expensive, especially for Oaxaca. It is very well located in the historic district, in easy walking distance between the zocalo (best I've ever seen in Mexico) and the Santa Domingo Cathedral and museum (definitely do not miss). The rooms are arranged around several garden courtyards, there is a pleasant outdoor restaurant, and the pool area is very pretty--having a pool in the central district is definitely a plus. The only other hotel that might compare to the Camino Real in Oaxaca in terms of pool/garden appeal might be the Hotel Victoria, but it is located on the outskirts overlooking the city. Has shuttle buses, and it's not too hard to walk DOWN the hill to town, but Camino Real location is superior and the hotel itself much more glamorous. Even if you don't stay there, be sure to go to their folkloric dancing program (big buffet, dancing, I think on Thursday or Friday evening) or eat in the restaurant, (In case you can't tell, I LOVE Oaxaca!)
thanks! we'll be going the end of oct.& appreciate your input.

Will you be there for the Day of the Dead? Be sure to reserve your room because this is the busiest time of the year in Oaxaca. I envy you!

Re Marilyn's post: we stayed at the Hotel Victoria a few years ago and had pool privileges at the Camino Real as the HV's pool was being retiled. HV was very nice, but the Camino Real was spectacular! Did not see the rooms, but the common areas, etc were beautiful and luxurious, and the folkloric program was excellent.

Great Place! Stay there or not Go for the guelaguetza. If you have troble finding a hotel try the Fiesta inn. They saved us on a reservation date mix-up. Also recomended HIGHLY "Suitetes del centro" Bein viaje
were not going during d.o.d. i thought it might be to busy for a first time visit. we want to try many restaurants. if we like it we might go back &stay a few days in Huatulco. the Isthmus region sounds great also but it might be to remote for my wife. if i had to choose festivals to go to should it be dod or guelaguetza?

Hello Rich,
I was in Oaxaca ten days ago, and I made just a visit to Camino Real (completly out of my budget); consider that a double cost around 2000 pesos (around 200 USD) per night whilst most of the other 4 stars hotel of Oaxaca are about 500 pesos (and now we are in low season). The hotel is really extraordinary, great patios, meeting room in a cappella, a swimming pool in a patio. I didn't have a look to the rooms but they should reflex the luxury of the rest of the hotel.
Ciao, Biro.

PS: Guelaguetza is during the last two mondays of July!!!
