Oaxaca

I am looking for a B&B in Oaxaca for about $50Us for 2 people withing walking distance to the zocalo and churches. Also would enjoy great gardens and hospitable hosts.

Have gone to Oaxaca numerous times and have stayed at Las Bugambilias, Las Golondrinas and this year I am trying Las Mariposas. The first two places would fit your needs and qre quite popular. Las Mariposas is a little further away on a busy street in a nice neighborhood. They do have a website and seem very eager to please. Buena Suerte! Has anyone else stayed or heard about Las Mariposas?

SrFlojo: I am interested in knowing more about Las Mariposas. Have you been yet?

SrFlojo,

If you have already visited Las Mariposas,
we would also be interested in how is compares to Las Golondrinas and Las Bugambilias.

Thanks

I have heard that Las mariposas is fine, just a little plain. Not much Oaxacan atmosphere. Is Las Bugambilias easy walking distance to Becari???

While we did not stay at the Mariposa, some people we met while in Oaxaca did stay there. I thought it a bit unusual, but very nice. It has a central courtyard, with a fountain, and trees. I thought it looked "Oaxacan".

Also, the owner is "adding on". That is to say, she is building deeper into the block. This means that the rooms in the back, which will have another courtyard, will be very quiet; a real advantage in Oaxaca. (One of the most accurate maxims: "Mexico is loud".)

They have a space where they offer cooking classes, and arranged for a very competent guide for my friends, my husband and myself.

If I didn't stay with the people we met through the language school, this place would be on the top of our list.

We loved Oaxaca, and hope to go back there soon.
