NW & BsAs -- Photo Trip Report
 

We hope our stateside brethren have enjoyed a good Thanksgiving as Black Friday looms ahead, with some stores open as early as 4am wouldya believe.

Anyway, back to our Argentina trip, many thanks to Angie for excellent guidance thru the NW & Isabel for help with domestic flights and lodging in BsAs and NW. BsAs is fine (great architecture, nice chow & wine, tango & a modicum of lagniappe) but if you relish scenery, history and culture don't miss the NW. However, we'd ditto others on this board about quirky domestic flights in Argentina.

i had to laugh at seeing the chapel high on the hill on the road from Cachi. We have the same picture, but shrouded completely in fog; now I can see the vista we missed!

I was also interested in your pictures of the cemeteries. I too was very fascinated by these cemeteries in the NW - very different than what we would have at home (US).

Forgot to ask about a couple questions.
First, about the Travel Agent, Isabel--was Isabel able to get better rates on either the internal air flights or the hotels? Where did you stay in BA?
Second -- how did u divide your time in the NW? Thanks for your help.

We stayed in ArtSuites in Recoleta, which did the trick for us as we wanted an apartment in a residential zone with all the conveniences but within striking range of many attractions, where we could stretch out, eat in when we wanted, etc. Not at all fancy but did the trick. Bring your own gizmo if you want to brew coffee. Only Spanish stations on TV, no radio if that matters to you. Within walking distance (20 to 40 min) of a lot of things, but cab rides are cheap in any case. Nice people and reasonably knowledgeable, but IOHO you're best to have done your homework before you arrive NTL. If you're interested best to refer to their website at
http://www.artsuites.com.ar/ and see if the place tickles your fancy.

A basic knowledge of Spanish helps even in BsAs, but be prepared for a different pronunciation compared to North America, or Castillian Spanish for that matter -- "ll" and "y" pronounced like the "s" in "sure".

We can't comment on how price competitive Isabel is, just that she is very responsive and thorough, which was our priority not having time to research all the options on our own. Best to discuss with her directly and see if you think she's worth the freight.

Unless you're into a lot of nightlife, cafes, eating out and shopping, 5 full days in BsAs is enough IOHO, however, you won't run out of things to do if you choose to stay longer. In the NW, 4 days are only enough to scratch the surface. Leave much more time if you're seriously into photography, hiking, shopping the markets, visiting wineries and such. We especially loved our stay in Estancia Colome, a splurge well worth it.

Near the end of your photos, you mentioned a place that had a supermarket on the water. Where was this? Is this area a day trip from Buenos Aires? Would you recommend it if we only have a few days?

About the floating super, that was in the Tigre, the delta north of BsAs, an easy day trip. I wouldn't prioitize Tigre over other sights in the city if you only have a few days.

I love going there and they have a tiny bit of books in English which is very difficult to find here.

I have to disagree with the idea that 4 or 5 day are sufficient for BA.
We were here for 2 weeks the first time and we never got to visit Colonia or Tigre, there was so much to do day and night..I am glad you enjoyed your holiday here and in the surrounding areas..but I feel like you missed out on something in the city.

They just changed the television programming this past year, making it all Spanish unless you purchase English speaking channels through your cable provider..I don't like that at all, I think it is a good service for visitors and hotels don't always want to pay the extra price. But tv here with cable will give you programming from all over the world, which can be very interesting :)
