Non cheezy destination on the west coast of Mexico?

I've been to Puerto Vallarta and really liked it but the beaches and snorkeling weren't too impressive. I'm wondering if there's another cool spot to check out on the west coast of Mexico. I want to stay away from a Cancun type of environment. Just looking for good food, some nice sites, good beaches, etc.
Any sugggestions?

La Casa Que Canta in Zihuatanejo. It is incredibly beautiful. Go to their website, www.casaquecanta.com.mx you will see what I mean. Also, the Westin Brisas in Ixtapa, also very nice, two different types of accommodations.
