Night-life in Rio, affordable?
 

I will be spending 5 nights in Rio de Janeiro in September? I am looking forward to the night life the city has to offer? Comparable to cities such as Los Angeles or Miami, how expensive are club admissions, drinks, late night dinners, shows? Any suggestions on nigh clubs, bars, restaurants?

I haven't been to LA lately but I have been to South Beach Miami and there is no comparison to Miami to Rio. Drinks in Miami could be around the $10 range, in Rio depending on the place anywhere from $2 to $4 for a mixed drink, beer much cheaper. Dinner can be anywhere from $10 to $30 depending on the place from a cafe in Copacabana to Satyricon in Ipanema.Two popular clubs now are Nuth in Barra Tijuca and Baronnetti on Rua Barao de Torre in Ipanema. About $10 to get in. Depending on the exchange rate a bottle of imported wine will be similar to the states for a good bottle about $30 - $35. A good show would be at Mistura Fina in Lagoa (Brazilian/Jazz upstairs, downstairs 3 piece band/bar/restaurant) also tourist samba/folklore show in Leblon called Plataforma. All cheap depending on the exchange rate compared to Miami and NY.

George, the club Mistura Fina is a real nice place in the neighborhood of Lagoa right behind Ipanema not far from the Sheraton. Downstairs there is a very nice restaurant and a nice bar where many locals hang out to have a drink and listen to the band that is in the bar area. Great place to meet locals, have a drink and listen to free music plus its a great restaurant. Upstairs they have top name music from all over the world including Brazilian and US acts. Its a nice medium size club with tables and chairs spread around where waiters run around and serve drinks during the show. They have a website go find it on google.The other place Plataforma has a restaurant downstairs more like a chuascaria where many locals frequent and Jobim ate lunch there every day this is in Leblon. Upstairs they have the Samba / Brazilian folklore show with dancing mullattas dressed in carnival style outfits mainly for tourists but something to do one night.
