Nicaragua money questions
Hi, Traveling to Nicaragua in Sept. does anyone have advise on currency and also what types of ATM cards are widely accepted. Typical amount of cash I should bring. Thanks

We were in Nicaragua in March of this year. We were able to use American money everywhere. We brought cash with us so we could pay our drivers and guide in cash. We charged some things and there were no conversion fees because they put the charge through in American dollars. It was so easy! We loved it!!

Small mom-and-pop places won't be able to take dollars. Businesses like hotels and tours will price their offerings in dollars though.
I think anybody else, say a restaurant, who charges you in dollars will calculate a less favorable rate than you would get if you paid in cordobas. It saves you the time of changing money, but you pay something for it in the end. |
Dollars are widely accepted in Nicaragua, as long as they are in good shape. All major credit cards are also accepted and it is a good idea for you to change some dollars not local currency, right w is C$27.50 per dollar. Whatever you do, do not change money at the airport, wait until you are in the major cities
