Nicaragua April 1-11 - OK time to go?

This time works well because I can get a cheap airfare, the time off from work is suitable, and I also would be going over Good Friday and Easter.

However, I've read that Nicaragua is hot and dry during this time in April, and it might not be a good time to go.

Is it still worth going considering the situation?

The caveats:

1) April is BEASTLY hot and dry.

2) Everyone is traveling over Holy Week (Semana Santa). Accommodation and transportation are at a premium, both in terms of space and price.

3) Very little will be open April 2-5.

The upside is that once Easter is over, things calm down greatly and get back to normal, and you would have a nice week there. Still very hot.

Thanks Jeff! I'll be landing April 2, because of the roundabout journey.

I checked for Granada (although I'm not necessarily sure I would stay there April 2-5), and there is accommodation at both the hostel and 3* level right now, so I might book something quickly as a backup.

Granada will have interesting Good Friday processions. From a cultural perspective, it would be a nice place to spend that first weekend.

You mention a hostel. Make sure wherever you stay has a/c. You will need it. Drink plenty of water, use sunscreen, wear a hat with a brim, and try to do your sightseeing in the morning or latter part of the afternoon. It's very hot, but it's doable. :)

Thanks Jeff. I've bought my ticket. Would it be better to see Good Friday and Easter in Leon or in Granada?

Leon has the biggest processions in the country. I only mentioned Granada because I thought that's where you were going to be. It'll be easier to get to Granada if you're arriving on Apr. 2.

The aquatic stations of the cross in the Islets of Granada sounds interesting.

I missed the aquatic stations of the cross, as that was on Wednesday, March 30. However, I had a fantastic time in Granada and surroundings, rural countryside near Diriamba, Matagalpa and surroundings, and Leon. Even when Leon was 99 degrees. I highly recommend Nicaragua.
