New Year's Eve in BA - need advice
 

(Am re-posting this since my post from yesterday seems to have evaporated.) We will be arriving in BA on New Year's Eve more or less by coincidence. We are not big NYE fans even here. Any suggestions for a more quiet place to have dinner or how things usually happen in that city on NYE? Will be staying at the Four Seasons.

Nº27 on the Latin America forum, not the Argentina forum. That is why you think it has evaporated. You must be looking for it in the Argentina forum.

BTW, mstraveler, I also answered your question about the VAT, with no acknowledgement.

avrooster, thank you but I have looked in vain for both of these replies in both the LA general interest and Argentina. I have searched by title and by my login and everything comes up "nothing found". I have been using this forum for years, so I am not inexperienced at finding things and am very interested in your replies. Just not sure what to do now.

Again, mstraveler, your first post about NYE, dated May 21, is, at this writing, ranked Nª31 in Latam. I suggest you look for it that way. Sometimes, those search engines don't work so well, you know.

This was my reply to that post: "Well, I'm sure the 4 Seasons will offer a NYE dinner, besides a normal dinner, earlier. So, if you are very tired and just want to avoid a NYE dinner, it should be possible, right in your hotel, which is one of the best in town."

There are many previous threads, both here and on tripadvisor.com about NYE dinners. Of course, they date from between 6 months and a year back.

I was in BA for New Year's 2 years ago. Most locals celebrate with a long dinner at home that lasts well after midnight, then out on the town much later. also, lots of impromptu fireworks being lit on the street- be careful! It was actually much more sedate than I imagined it would be and definitely mcuh quieter than most major US cities. Taxis are nearly impossible to get as most drivers are celebrating with family... Staying at your hotel or in the immediate area is probably your only option anyway. Also- while I found the food and wine incredibly inexpensive there, restaurants jack up the prices 4-5x higher for New Years dinners. Lots of them do the over-priced buffet, DJ, party thing but some restaurants had quieter, set menu options. I am sure you will find something near the 4 seasons that will suit you. Also--typically NO ONE eats dinner before 9 there, even on regular week nights so getting an early table probably wont be an issue. Enjoy!

Thanks mo261. Good to know about the search function and that is exactly what I wanted to know about NYE, i.e. what the general scene is.

Does anyone know a good restaurant we could walk to from the Four Seasons? I can certainly ask their concierge, but tend to trust outside opinions more. Maybe someplace small that would not be doing the expensive NYE dinner routine.

There is a group of good restaurants no more than a block away from the Four Seasons. I believe two of them are called Piegari. One is for pasta and the other one for meat. What I do NOT know is what they will do for NYE. The 4 Seasons concierge should know at least what they have done in previous NYEs.

I looked at the tripadvisor forum for comments about Piegari and all were favorable. I had lunch there a while ago and it was good.
