New Years Eve in Acapulco
 

First time Mexico vacationer going to Acapulco for New Years...Any suggestions on a fabulous way to bring in the new year? Interested in everything from great restaurants to clubs. Has anyone been there for New Years? Do you expect reservations in advance are a must for certain places, as they are in the states (e.g. Chicago)?

yes most of the Acapulco Resort places along the Acapulco "Strip" require reservations.
Maybe you will hit a few places that are not all booked up yet.
Many Mexicans come to Acapulco from Mexico City for the festivities...so it can get pretty crowded.
But it is a nice mixture and the Mexicans are not as loud as the Americans !!!
I was there 2 years ago over Christmas and New Years and it was 96 F....not hard to taken when you are coming from Chicago.
The dinning and party areas are decorated pretty nice and the Mexican music is great.

On New years Eve there will be no shortage of nightlife places.
The resorts of Acapulco curve around the Acapulco Bay like a peril necklace.

One side of the resort faces the water and the the opposite side is one block away from the main "Strip".
Like in Las Vegas , if you have been there.
Celso Lopez is a very good guide. He is at the Costa Club, which is right in the centre of "curved strip.
You cannot miss the Costa Club , it has a shape like no other .
Next to the Costa Club there is this beautiful Mall...let me tell you when it is 96F, an air conditioned Mall is a pleasant relief.
Also walk down to the Hyatt Regency Hotel,it is at the beginning of the "strip" as you are coming from the airport.
There is this "must see" tree right in front.
Well!!! speak of the devil, I just got an e mail from Celso and he tells me he is going to be giving tours in Cancun this Christmas....bummer , because he could have set you up with some great tours.
Two years ago on Christmas Day , I took the City tour of Acapulco.
I guess because it was Christmas, touring was light because a private car came to pick the two of us up.!!!
What a lovely tour it was and it included the Cliff Divers.
You will see Sylvestor Stallone's house with its great view ( of course)of Acapulco Bay and Resorts.
It's a great place ,have a Happy New Year there , you lucky people

Fancy restaurant Coyuca 22 is a must if you go to Acapulco (it is in the old Acapulco)reservations are required, also there are some fancy restaurants on the highway on the hills ("Carretera Escenica")I would personally recommend Madeiras Restaurant, again especially because of the season try reservations in advance

here is something else I would do.
Where ever you are staying at, get the tour guide at the hotel to book a private guide for you...this is what we did.
When the guide arrived I told him to:
"Take me every where in Acapulco where tourist usually do not go.:
Boy did he drives us around and show us some sites.
As you look in the opposite direction from the Acapulco Bay you will see some high hill that are like small mountains.
Well on the other side of these "mountains" is where most of the people that work in down town Acapulco live.
Then he took us to where the Rambo movie was filmed
Then we drove over to the Pacific Ocean and watch this gorgeous sunset.
What did the private guide charge us for this tour(3 hours)..$20.00, but I gave him a $30.00 tip because it was worth $50.00 anytime.
I sat right in the front seat with him in his car.
