New Year in Brazil
Given that it is nearly impossible to find a reasonably priced accomodation in Rio or Salvador for 28Dec-1Jan, What are alternative good places to spend New Year Eve in Brazil? Is Sao Paulo really that bad? Many thanx!

I spend New Years Eve in Sao Paulo a few years ago. Yes, there are parties, etc., but if you are going to be in Brazil, stay away from Sao Paulo, even the locals leave. The real fun is on the coast. Definitely find something on the coast.

The Ariau Amazon Towers Hotel would be a fantastic place for New Years. The entire hotel is built in the canopy of the rainforest! The Hotel, although a wonderful eco-resort, has wonderful Amazonian Celebrations! Amazing native dancers and music! They really know how to have a great time in the Amazon!
Mark
PS - The web site is:
http://www.AriauAmazonTowers.com

Evgeny,

This is going to be one of the busiest touristic season, since the dollar rate is too high facing our currency, and the fear of terrorism is likely keeping Brazilians away from International travel.

Hence, expect all hotels in Rio and Salvador to be fully booked, or nearly.

Besides Salvador, though, there's the Northeastern coast which is is beautiful, and not only Salvador should be looked over. There's Costa do Sauipe, there are many other places in Bahia, and also Pernambuco, Ceara, Maranhao, Alagoas, besides the Amazon, as the other poster stated and also Fernando de Noronha island.

Sao Paulo is a huge metropole but not a touristic destination as such. Look elsewhere, as I told you.

Best regards,

Surlok

Sao Paulo is a great city ith a variety of attractions and one hour from coastal area. Great hotels provide excellent advice for where to go and have moderate price and offer great parties for the Christmas and new year celebration (try the Maksoud Plaza, www.maksoud.com distinguished as best independent hotel by Wallpaper magazine)

Paulo
