Need to find a vacation spot for Oct. 2002 with nearby ruins, nice snorkeling....

Hi,
We're already discussing next October's vacation, but, due to horrendous multi-stage flights to & from Europe this month, want to go somewhere that's easier and faster to get to. We've been to Playa delCarmen (twice) and to Telchac Puerto, and don't want to return to either area. We've also dragged our snorkel stuff with us on two consecutive vacations now, without using any. Our needs: somewhere close to ruins (ie- no more than 1-1 1/2 hours' drive away), good snorkeling there or nearby, all-inclusive 4 or 4 1/2 star, and reachable from Edmonton, Alberta on a single flight. As a f'rinstance of budget, we,ve stayed at the Marriott Casa Magna in Puerto Vallarta, the Iberostar Quetzal in Playa del Carmen, and the Barcelo Playa Tambor in Cost Rica - two -week stays in all. Any and all suggestions will be gratefully appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Topping, as I'm interested in the same, minus the flight from Canada and al-inclusive bits...

Belize of course-the world's second longest barrier reef and some of the most pristine marine environments in this hemisphere. Ruins dot and lenght and breadth of the land, was home to over a million Maya at one point.

Katie Valk, Belize

As for Costa Rica, we have always enjoyed the Manuel Antonio area, great national park, great beach, great food and *** you can drink the WATER!***
Belize is our destination this year in December. The above post is correct about the hurricane season. Is October flexible? The end of rainy season for both of the above destinations is Early December. Feel free to contact via e-mail.
