Need Riviera Maya accomodations - Help!!!

After planning to go to St. Croix for the past 3 months, my husband has gotten all fired up for Riviera Maya. Now I have to start from step one all over again! Looking for a great all -inclusive - Beach less important than great food. I earlier asked about the Iberostar Paraiso del Mar - sounds better than Riu Palace to me. How about the Moon Palace? Thanks to any who take the time to respond.

Hi Jill,

Well the Moon Palace is located only 20 minutes from Cancun, but the Aventura Palace is located 50 minutes from Cancun near Playa del Carmen. This is a great adults only all inclusive resort! They have a beautiful man made lagoon, and a huge beautiful pool with swim up bars. Check out this website for more info and if you need a quote send me your travel dates, and airport of departure.

www.get-me.to/cancun
Just back from the Reef Club in Playa Del Carmen. Food was much better than the Moon Palace. The grounds were beautiful...unlike the Moon Palace which cut everything down to build. The beach was AWESOME. Moon Palace is very isolated...Reef Club is within walking distance of Playa Del Carmen, which is great for shoping! We slipped the front desk a $20 when we checked in and got one of the few ocean view rooms with a private hot tub!

Have you looked at the Royal hideaway? The food is supposed to be outstanding and no buffets

Jill Aug 6th, 2001 01:24 PM

Thanks for the suggestions. I have to admit, the Royal Hideaway sounds wonderful, but the price is a little more than I can go. The prices at Iberostar, (around 2500.00) are more within our range. (for two.) I really would like feedback about the Paraiso, and a comparison to the Tucan if poss. Thanks again!

did you check the www.cancunandrivieramaya.com board? There are alot of trip reports and some people that have been to both . They are regular posters and will be able to give you comparisons. There are also some great pictures in those reports. I have only been to the Tucan...sorry.

Hey Kathy, thanks for the web site - I've looked there, read a few different reviews. How did you feel about the Tucan? How was the food? Thanks again

Hi Jill,
We thought the food at the Tucan was above average for all inclusive. It is a resort we would consider going back to. They had a seafood night( thursday) with lobster, shrimp, fried calamari and lots of other things. They had a mexican night(Saturday) with really good authentic mexican which we really enjoyed. We had a great dinner in the Italian alacart rest and strangly the mexican alacart was not very good. Alot of people have said the steak alacart rest. is good but we didn't try it. There was always lots of variety at the buffets. They would usually have some type of meat being carved , like ham, turkey, beef, a seafood station, pasta station, pizza, mexican, lots of salads, cold cuts and cheese... It is a little more self serve than some resorts, you might have to get your own coffee and drinks on occasion. They have self serve beer ,wine, juice, coffee ,soda stations in the restuarants. Many times a waiter would bring us ours though after they get to know what you like. I just read a post that said they recently added waiters for bar service at the pool and beach. They kept our mini fridge well stocked with beer, soda and water and there was also an open closet in the hall to help yourself if you ran out. The rooms were fine, very clean , huge walkin shower, all marble. The air conditioning was actually too cold for me, couldn't seem to turn it down. The one complaint I had with the room was the balcony. We really like to sit on ours at times with a drink and we couldn't. the way it was enclosed we couldn't get any air curculation on it . It was so buried in jungle that it had no view. This really was just the location of this particular room. It is very hard to get an ocean view room there as they don't have many. The jungle is very attractive and has paths winding throughout it. The pool is huge and very nice. You do need to get out early to reserve chairs. I understand that they have fixed the beach erosion problems they were having. Hope this helps.

Thanks again Kathy for lots of great info! I have narrowed it down to an Iberostar, just have to decide which one!
