Need Restaurant Recommendations

We are traveling to Rio for the first time in a couple of months. We very much enjoy good dining experiences - terrific food & wine. Any suggestions/recommendations will be very much appreciated. You can post them and send them to me at [email protected]. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Hal

There is also the Cipriani, the "Orient Express chain" Copacabana Palace Hotel restaurant. The food is terrific, but is mostly an adapted Italian menu. The wines are great. too. There's also Antiquarius, in Leblon, with terrific Portuguese food and wines. We just returned to Europe with a great souvenir of 2 excellent restaurants in Rio: GOURMET located in Ipanema(Barrao da torres 386)and COLOMBO(art nouveau style) located in Center of Rio(via Goncalves Dias) Cipriani(Copacabana Palace) is a great but very classic and expansive restaurant.Concerning wines,only imported wines are acceptable in Brzazil(european opinion of course).GOOD LUCK

Here are some of my favorites in Rio.. Rio de Janeiro - Restaurants Antiquarius Rua Aristides Epinola 19, Leblon Rio de Janeiro Phone: 021/2294-1049 Antiquarius is one of the best restaurants in Rio. Food is Portuguese. Best to make reservations…it is on the high end price wise but worth it. Dress nicely, although Jacket is not necessary Marius - considered best all you can eat Bar-b-que (Av. Atlântica 290-A, Leme - Copacabana tel. 021/542-2392). AE, DC, MC, V Porcão - also considered best all you can eat Bar-b-que Rua Barão da Torre 218, Ipanema Rio de Janeiro Phone: 021/521-0999 Ouro Verde Restaurant in the Ouro Verde Hotel - Av. Atlântica, 1456 Copacabana Very nice atmosphere – good food and great service – Swiss owned and operated Café do Teatro – underneath the Municipal Theatre – go for lunch – very unusual atmosphere – looks like a Cecil B DeMille movie set Av. Rio Branco, Centro Rio de Janeiro Phone: 021/2262-4164 Colombo - this is a ‘turn of the century’ Parisian style tea house – great for the atmosphere Rua Gonçalves Dias 32, Centro Rio de Janeiro Phone: 021/2232-2300 Mediterrâneo – Excellent for seafood and homemade pasta – casual atmosphere near the Praia Ipanema Hotel – a couple blocks away. Ipanema Rua Prudente de Morais, 1.180 521-0195 Plataforma - Go for the Samba Show…need to make reservation for Samba Show Leblon Rua Adalberto Ferreira, 32 phone: 2274-4022 Cipriani – this is very high end – considered one of the Best restaurants in the World Av. Atlântica, 1072 Copacabana Palace Hotel Phone: 2255-7070 Natural Food & Salads Natural – Ipanema Natural Food Buffet – charged by weight Rua Barao da Torre, 171 Gula-gula – Salad Bar Rua Anibal de Mendonca, 132 neighborhoods.
