Need help....Zihuatanejo logistic questions.

Hola!

We're planning a trip to Zihuatanejo in Mid-October 2008.

Please help with questions:

1) how far is the walk from La Madera to La Ropa beach? Is it on a beach walking path, street or sand?

2) what is the weather like this time of year (we're looking at Oct. 19-26)

3) how safe is this area? we're bringing our 7 yr old son.

4) we're hoping to sample the authentic cuisine at mom and pop type restaurants....how safe is the food/water?

Anything else we need to know?

Gracias for all your help!

We just got back from Zihua in May. We LOVED it!!

1) The walk from Playa Madera to Playa Ropa will probably be about 15 minutes, along the street. There's no beachfront path connecting the two.

2) We felt as safe as we do at home, the locals love their kids and are very family oriented. We walked to town from our hotel on Playa Madera and back late every night and not once did we feel threatened. That said, there was usually a pretty visible police presence as well.

3) We saw bottled water being used in every place we went to, and all of the ice is supposed to be from processed water. We were there for ten days and took just normal precautions and didn't have any trouble.

I posted a quick trip report with the names of my favorite hole-in-the-wall places to eat, if you want to have a look at that.

Enjoy!!!!!!

OK Steep hill between the to. easy stroll to El Centro from Madera But a cab required from La Ropa.
2.Probably the worst time of year to go.
Sorry but that's a fact. If storms hit it's September/October. Very Hot/humid/ Better to wait to Thanksgiving/into December then gorgeous weather.
3.Safer than any US city.
4. The Ricomar in Pozole Alley. Fantastic real Mexican food for about 30 pesos or LESS!
Pollo Felize for another
The Marina Café-pizza, pasta fish
Senor Memos (Italian under 70 pesos)
Chendos
Leytas both bargain seafood

Thx for posting.

txgirlinbda,

Awesome. I'll check out your report...thx.

Stewbear,

Didn't realize that was storm season. Thx for the heads up.

How's the weather the first week of April?

We have to plan around our son's school breaks, so not too many options.

Gracias.

How far's Zijuat from the airport? Do you typically go by taxi? Is the airport between Ixtapa & Zijuat?

Thank you for letter me tag along here, Suze

Airport is actually South of Zihua so farther from Ixtapa. Rates are fixed & HIGH. Much higher than PV Suze. Best deal is The Van that runs 115 peso per to Ixtapa or Zihua. A cab is about 350 pesos to Ixtapa now.

April is lovely with slightly warmer than mid winter. The only draw back is Easter. During Easter Week & the one before the hotels & beaches are very crowded with Mexican Nationals. Now I personally love that time of year with the mix of cultures but not particularly relaxing time. The best time for excellent weather & NO CROWDS is thanksgiving early December.

Stewbear,

I think we're going to take the chance and go for it in October. May be a mistake, but the timing is good and the price is right. This year Nov.-Dec. is out of the question in our plans and I just don't want to wait until 2009.

Keep your fingers crossed for decent weather!

Thx for all your expertise and tips. I've cut and pasted all your tips/recommendations. Las Brisas del Mar looks like a gem.

Gracias....

Hola,

I agree that Ricomar has wonderful posole on Thursdays. We also took a cab to El Profe for posole Thursday in the little town between the airport and Zihuatanejo. Wonderful carnitas on the bone and all of the food was great. A truly local and fun spot.

We were there the first week in April...very nice weather.

Just a warning about the airport taxi hustle...get your taxi arrangements only at the taxi booth right outside customs. A one way is best since taxis are easy to get on the return and much cheaper TO the airport. People will approach you for "deals" and some with condo pitches.

Have a great time.

The Ricomar serves Pozole 6 days a week but are closed on Mondays. Many others only serve it on Thursdays.

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 06:12 AM.
