Need help designing a luxury Argentina tour...
 

I visited Chile in 2002 and really enjoyed it. After three straight years since of visiting Southern Africa (safaris), my next one in about 7 weeks, I think I am ready for a break from Africa and would like to possibly visit Argentina.

I have two weeks available and would like to stay in the best possible places, visiting in probably late February / early March while the weather should still be favorable. Any ideas will be appreciated, as I am just starting and could use a little jump start.

Of course I would like to spend about 3 nights in Buenos Aires, I would like to visit Patagonia, I would like to see their winelands, and if they have an interesting desert area like the Atacama Desert, that would also be a consideration. If there are any really nice beach areas I may even consider that for a couple nights.

We were there first 2 weeks of March. For a luxury hotel in BA, either the Hotel Avear or the Four Seasons are both 5 star hotels...in Bariloche, we stayed at the Llao Llao Resort, which was outstanding, part of the leading hotels of the world. I highly recommend you use a local travel agent, we used [email protected], she was wonderful, tell her what you'd like to see and do, she'll arrange it all. We did an independent tour. We are also considering going back next year to go to the Desert/wine country. We loved Argentina. Have a great time.

Rocco: your post is not under Argentina, so you may get fewer answers.

As the previous post indicates, the Alvear in BA and the Llao-Llao in Bariloche, in the southern part of our country, are considered the best hotels.

I think a travel agent would help with the flights within Argentina, but I would try contacting the hotels directly and compare with the travel agent's quotes.

Buenos Aires alone has many premium proposals for outdoors / full day side trips , just to mention a few :

a) Luxurious Estancias - ( Many of them)

Villa María in Carlos Paz is just one example that represents old time wealthy Argentina. Spend a full day sorrounded by a beautifull park and a huge Tudor building. Horse riding .


b) Tigre Delta full day Nautical tour and fishing
Get to know some of the 200 islands
and rivers in a enchanted paradise
the Biosfera reservoir ( UNESCO)

c) Specialized Walking tours in B.A.

d) Hunting ( minimum 2 days)

You could easily stay 5 or more days in town.
My vote too for Alvear and LLao LLao.

I am thinking of something along these lines, for a late February/early March visit:

Four Seasons Buenos Aires (4)
Llao Llao (4)
Los Notros (superior room)(5)
Buenos Aires (1) This will help me rest from traveling all the way back from Los Notros.

What do you think something like this would cost?

I am thinking for the lodging, I would be looking at something like this:

Four Seasons x 5 nights = $1,500
Llao Llao x 4 nights = $1,250 (superior lake room after March 01st)
Los Notros x 5 nights = $4,500
Domestic Air/Road Transfers (Buenos Aires - Bariloche - Patagonia) = $1,500

Does that look about right?

This is a very difficult choice...I have been doing nothing but luxury safaris for the last three years, but I am getting a little burned out and will likely either visit Argentina or India or I may just end up visiting somewhere new in Africa (quite a contrast between the three choices, I know).
