It will take you the enitre day. We rented a car and drove there. It was approximately two to two and a half hours one way. The bus will take longer. You'll probably be at the site for about 3-4 hours. That's plently of time to see everything, but it's a long hot day. Enjoy.

We were in Cancun just last April. I truly advise you to go to Chichen Itza on one of the buses which stays for the late night lazer show. It is spectacular. The bus trip was about 3 hours. We left at 8 am and traveled through some small towns and stopped. We also had a late lunch at a quaint villa with local entertainment. It's a wonderful full day excursion. Hope you consider this.

Your BEST bet is to leave the commercialism of Cancun for 2 days and stay at in a real Yucatan town, Valladolid. Take the 1st class bus ($8 USD)from Cancun to Valladolid (2hrs) Stay at Maria de la Luz ($26/nite double)and experience this charming town and then take the half hour bus ride ($1.50 USD) the next morning and you'll have the entire site to yourself before all the buses arrive. Get a guide and stay as long as you want. Go back to Valladolid...enjoy, relax, reflect on the Mayan culture and then take the bus back to Cancun. The people are lovely and there's alot to see in this small city. Also the hotel has a nice web site. Check it out... Hope this helps. <BR>M.E.
