Just tagging in here with a question: we will be taking the ADO from Chetumal to Merida. Should we buy tickets in advance? The app shows 420 pesos one way of bought now. Do prices increase if bought that morning?
|
Yes, you can purchase in advance and in my experience, the prices do not differ. We have never had a problem with ADO except for some tardiness at times.

Neph,
Sorry, yes, certain streets are blocked off for bicycle riding, walking and jogging for Bicaruta. You can rent bikes out or if lucky Telcel has interspersed free loaner bikes on the route. Our ritual is to ride bikes (with our special dog seat) to La Emirita parque _ there's a hidden garden parque behind the church that you need to go through a door to find.We then ride back up to the Zacalo (mMain Plaza) for a freshly made Churro and then continue up Paseo Montejo Blvd. to see and be seen. We then have Rancho Mojulos (sp) for breakfast in Santa Ana Parque. I never buy my ADO tickets ahead but this is a busy time of year. |
As an alternative, American will begin flights to Merida in March and United already flies there, as do a few Mexican airlines. Flying directly there is a way to avoid traveling overland.

Cybor: a perfect suggestion -- I just love the idea of finding a hidden garden behind a door behind a church. A suggestion worthy of Fodor's! We'll retrace your route and I'll report back here.
Jeff - I would love to have a direct flight and avoid the bus ride but we have free tickets (points) on Southwest and obviously we're going for the cheaper route. But thanks for the suggestion which could benefit others. |
Cybor: I just googled "la emerita" and found Parque de la Ermita de Santa Isabel. It looks to be on approximately Calle 77, between Calle 66 and 64A. Could that be the church and garden you're referring to?
|
That's how I meant it, Nepheline. I know you have your tickets already. :)
|
Yes, that's the park. The bike path runs from there to where Colonias and Paseo Montejo intersect. We also ride through many of the other neighborhoods on Sundays because of the lack of traffic.
|
Thanks, Jeff and Cybor. Looking forward to our ride.
