NatureAir flight to Arenal
 

Has anyone taken the NatureAir flight from San Jose to Arenal? How did that work out? If I do this what is the best way to get to the Lost Iguana? Would there be taxis? or would I need to rent a car or arrange for other transportation from the airstrip?

Any insights would be appreciated! thanks!

Just did the flight to and from up there. The plane leaves San Jose at noon each day and gets up there about 12:30. The plane turns around and heads back to San Jose about 10 minutes later. The airstrip is about five miles east of La Fortuna. A van meets all flights and charges $5 per person for the ride to and from town. Not sure if they'd take you to Lost Iguana, since that's about 15 miles west of La Fortuna, but I know a taxis from the center of town take people out there, and they are very easy to find in La Fortuna. Actually, I'll be up there again next week and visitng Lost Iguana, so I can let you know how much the taxi charges.

Just want to make sure you know the drive between SJ and Lost Iquana is easy with very well paved roads. I personally loved having a car in Arenal. You can stop on the side of the road and watch monkeys for hours if thats your fancy. Search on my name and you can see my trip report if you want.

Thanks Millie and I did review your trip report. Sounds like a great time! I'm still weighing three options for my trip. 1) drive from SJ (cheapest option, but I'm not known for my patience in the car...although maybe with scenary better than metro boston I wouldn't have this problem?) 2) fly to Arenal and use taxis (fast flight is attractive, but relying on taxis isn't) or 3) fly to Arenal and rent a car upon arrival (I found a couple of companies that rent cars in Arenal...most expensive option, but gives me the freedom of my own car...without the long drive)...too many options!

I would vote to definitely rent a car from either place since having your own transport is great in Arenal.
