Must see, must do stuff in PV?
 

My girl and I will be in PV March 1-7. What are the best adventures and sites we must see? -Ben

Free or almost
1. Sunset at El Nido (The nest) on the roof at Hotel Los Cuatro Vientos Hotel on Matamoras.
2.The Island (North end) for a most peaceful spot.
3. The swinging Bridge fom The Island to Ruiz's Grocery
4. The entire old town
5. The Malacon
6. Playa de Muertos
7. Tacos at any stand on Madero
Also a must is dinner at The Red Cabbage a great Café at reasonable prices.

Well Stew already covered all my favorites, but I'll see if I can add on a few more ideas:

1. Ride the local bus around
2. Go to Destiladeras or El Anclote, beautiful beaches out between Bucerias and Punta Mita
3. Hire a taxi driver for a half-day and have him make a tour for you maybe down to Chico's Paradise, El Eden, etc.
4. Lunch or dinner at Mariscos Tino's in Pitillal
5. Take a water taxi out to Yelapa for the day

As above, I highly recommend... strolling the Malecon in the evening, dinner at Red Cabbage in Remance, a day at Playa Los Muertos beach, sunset from Chez Elena's rooftop... these really are the prize hidden gems of Puerto Vallarta.

Be careful of "free jeep" rentals or the tour guide booths along the sidewalks in town, these are just time share sales people thinly disquised. If you want to do formal activities I would work with Vallarta Adventures or ask at your hotel front desk.

Suze! Thankyou so much. Sounds like great advice! I am considering renting a car for a day or two to see sights. I have driven extensively in Mexico in past years. What is your advice about this? Also any advise on the best place to do a day of diving and the best dive company would be very helpfull. Thanks.

Sorry can't help with those. Never have rented a car, always get around by bus or taxi. And am not much of a swimmer/diver. I know there are boats that take you out in the Bay for that kind of thing. Maybe ask your hotel front desk for a recommendation.

For snorkeling and diving Vallarta adventure tours are well known. Also there is a Chico Dive Shop in front of Los Arcos on the beach, just before the Los Muertos Pier. Vallarta Adventure Canapy Zip tours, and the Las Caletas swim/snorkel/nature walk tour are favorites of my husband. See a good description on the Vallarta Adventure website. Don't miss PiPi's restaurant on Pipila when you are in Centro PV (Four blocks up from the Ocean), then walk the Malecon after dinner. If you rent a car you have great scenery north or south. North is my favorite because of Bucerias, Sayulita (surf town) and Guayabitos. As Stewbear says, Malecon, Entire Old Town and Playa los Muertos about sums it up. Don't miss any of these three.
