moving to CR?
 

I'm looking for info on where to live/retire in CR. I'll be going there for 1st time in Oct to check it out. No itin. as of yet but thinking of flying into SJO then to Pacific coast next day, total of 13 days. I usually pack lite and find lodging as I go, is that cool this time of yr? Any info from those of you who've cashed in and moved to CR (or any where) I'd appreicate your input on what to do/not do and any must do's for this short trip would be most greatly appreciated. Tom

As long as you have a hotel in mind for your first and last nights in SJ, you'll be fine picking up lodging on the Pacific coast as you go. We've visited this beautiful country 5 times and never have problems finding lodging without having reservations. You'll be there for the 'green season' (May thru Nov) so it will be cheapest too!

Check out: www.discoverypresss.com. It is a great site for those interested in retiring in CR. Packing lite is cool, but why are you heading to the beach. If you are retiring in CR, you'd be advised to check out living needs: banking, car, DL, residency status, home, health Ins.,Dr.,dentist, private mail, grocery shopping, retirement Assn....Save the tourist trips until once you live there. It will give you something to do on weekends. A good contact, at least for your first day, is Jose Pelleya. He is a spanish speaking gringo, owns a B&B in Alajuela (5 mins. from airport) and charges only $20 to pick you up at the airport, put you up for the night, and feed you breakfast before getting you pointed in the right direction. <BR>I also know Jose and as the previous writer stated it sure makes your first night in Costa Rica a lot esier if you have him pick you up and take you to his B&B in Alajuela, which is closer to the airport than San Jose. Before you spend TOO much time traipsing around Costa Rica in search of that perfect place to retire, better make sure you can meet Costa Rica's minimum financial requirements for foreigners moving there for retirement. <BR>For the latest and accurate info, contact either the Costa Rican Embassy in Washington, D.C. or an official Costa Rican Consulate (not just an honorary one) nearest you.
