Mountains; Where to go?

Hello,

We are planning for a DEC-JAN getaway in South America. We love mountain scenery. USA rockies, Canadian Rockies, Alaskan ranges, Himalayas are some we have seen/been to. Swiss Alps we are going this summer.

Could you suggest some South American destinations we should look to visit?

There's lots of choice, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. The favourite are the Torres de Paine in Patagonia, Chile.

Thanks toid.

Yes, Patagonia is in my list.

Could you help me with some links to pictures and/or route planning articles.

The most varied scneries in mountains are in the NW of Argentina, like the 7 colour mountains in Purmmarca, close to the Salt Flats and also Cafayate, the wine are in Argentina. Cachi the high peack. It is worth and the weather is great any time of the year.
The food is also great and the wines. the best.
Flint.

Hi Kalpana_Kar,

Sajama National Park in Boliva is absolutely wonderful. You may see for yourself when you read through my travelogue and photos at http://www.worldisround.com/articles/143197/index.html

I will also suggest Peru's Cordillera Blanca. (We just returned from a northern Peru trip two days ago.) And, one final suggestion for a destination (also in northern Peru) would be the Chachapoyas area.

Ray and I are working on a trip report for this recent trip.

Sharon
