motel close to SJO and Vamos car rental
 

Is there a economy motel close to SJO and Vamos car rental. I know cars can be delivered to the Marriott but wonder if there is a cheaper, clean economy motel. Thanks

There are a few American chains around there like Holiday Inn, and I believe Hampton Inn. Adventure Inn is popular; you'd have to check prices to compare. We stayed at a Best Western once courtesy of the airlines, but it was further away. There may be a Courtyard.

We are staying at Adventure Inn - checking in the night we arrive at SJO and then shuttling back to the airport the following morning to pick up our rental car. They have a free shuttle back and forth to the airport, but it looks like you need to reserve it in advance.

I checked out the Adventure Inn and they are 6 miles from airport. Like you, we would be arriving late enough at SJO to need a overnight motel. Guess I would have to take a taxi the next morning to Vamos Car Rental that is close to airport. Guess that would not be a problem. Wonder what a taxi cost.

We looked at Vamos for our car rental (but decided on another) and I think I saw that they have a hotel pick-up service. Maybe they'd come and get you at your hotel?

The Hampton and Holiday Inn are across the parking lot from Vamos, so that would be really convenient.

We used Vamos and after dropping the car, we stayed at the Marriott Courtyard. Vamos gave us a ride over there in their van. We were prepared to take a taxi, but they offered to give us a ride. So you might inquire if they can pick you up at your hotel if you choose a hotel that isn't close by. And if not, a taxi won't cost much.

We're using EuropCar - we've used them many times in Europe. I think the final price was slightly lower than Vamos. We always opt for a lot of insurance, which seems to really add up in Costa Rica! .

Have a look at the Pura Vida Hotel, who is now recommending Alamo. They have a car delivery service and reimburse for your airport taxi. Lots of good info on their website, too.
It has been a number of years, but seems to be the same interesting expats and their German Shepherds. Great dinner (extra, reserve in advance) and breakfast (included).
