Mosquitos in Belize

How big is the problem. Is it that bad? I'm planning on simply staying in San Ignacio, Belize City, and one of the Cayes.

I suppose it would depend on when you are there. We went the first week of March 2001, and stayed in the Cayo District, and I thought the mosquitos were bad. I think it also depends on where you are staying.

Was in Belize in December. Stayed at Ian's Cave Branch and went into Cayo District. No problems with bugs. Went to Hopkins area and was eaten alive by sand flies. I have been told that sand fly problem is also in Placencia and some of the Cayes.

We stayed in Green Parrot north of San Pedro and one of the reasons why I would never recommend this place were mosquitos. We couldn't even take a walk outside anywhere. It was terrible experience
