Morelia to Puerto Vallarta
Young newlyweds want to visit the bride's grandmother in Morelia, then honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta this December. Anyone know if there are convenient flights between the two and what airlines? Or any advice on which way to travel from San Francisco or Sacramento? I think it would be about an 8 hour bus trip if they bussed from Puerto Vallarta to Morelia and returned, and they have only an 8 day trip. Thanks.

There is a new Mexicana flight from either San Jose or San Fransisco to Morelia. One way $242. That includes free drinks & a hot meal with choice of entrées. The Best airline flying to Mexico. In almost 25 years of flights to Mexico I have never had a bad flight. Intermexico flights are expensive but getting cheaper. If not take the bus either through Guadalajara or over to the coast at Lazaro Cardenas the up through Manzanillo. Rather than return perhaps you should check out Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa for your honeymoon only 4 hours from Morelia & my personal # 1 beach destination. Go to www.zihutanejo.net for tons of great info & a great message board.

Thanks for the info. I can't raise Mexicana airlines on the net so will have to call them. I too love Mexicana. Will refer the kids to that Zihua website. Reasonable priced Accommodations will be the issue for them.

Also recommend Zihua--if they like to be on their own--look into renting Casa Rosa--it's a beautiful little bungalow a short hike up from Playa La Ropa. Daily Maid service, but you have a small kitchen--so you can prepare breakfast (at least coffee) and afternoon snacks. You get beach club privileges (including a discount on food/bev) at La Perla Rest/Bar. Cheap taxi ride into town, but lots of good restaurants right on the beach. http://www.zihuatanejo.net/donfrancisco/casarosa.html

Yeah Mexicana's website is down & is being redesigned. Lots of moderate & lower priced places to stay in Zihua, Hotel Solimar off the beach is nice. Actually nice apartments with living/dining, kitchenette, separate bedroom, bath, balcony & a lovely pool. Very clean & owned bu a great English speaking (Except The Grandmother) Mexican Family. About $75 US. On the beach Irma & sun & Moon are good. Actually if they are looking for real budget a bare bones but very clean place iv the Vic-Mar at 200 peso for a room with private bath about 5 minutes from Playa Madera & 10 from El Centro.Clean but zero amenities. No TV or A/C in a residential area. Also have them checkout Los Mangos tiny bungalows with A/c, cable & kitchenettes in a secure courtyard. Near the Vic-Mar.

Thanks both, I think Zihua is better for this couple because of the grandmother being in Morelia. Otherwise I would be pushing for them to go to PV.

PS Have then check out Casa Bulamro. It is a art gallery just steps from the beach but the owner a artist himself has designed 4 Lovely rooms with private bath at $40 a night including a Continental breakfast. No view from rooms but the court yard & rooms are lovely & if they go up to the roof top patio it is a tremendous view of the bay & the sunset. A great bargain Honeymoon spot. http://bagaleriainc.tripod.com/id.22.html or e mail [email protected] You can also get there through the website I posted earlier.
