Morelia hotel
Trying to decide between Virrey Mendoza and Hotel Juaninos. Anyone have experience with either?

Had lunch and dinner at Hotel Juaninos - great location, jaw dropping view of the cathedral, teriffic food - didn't stay at the hotel though (sorry). It looked to be done in the wonderful minimal mexican modern tone with touches of whimsy and humor - next time I visit Morelia I'll stay there. First visit I stayed at the Hotel de la Soledad - pleasent, simple, charming courtyard and great breakfast.

Thanks, Carta. I'm hearing lots of great reviews on the Juaninos restaurant. But nothing on the hotel itself. Saw one rave of the hotel on tripadvisor, but none of the travel books mention it at all. Am just wondering why . . . as it's touted elsewhere as a classy place, a nice rehab of an old building, etc. Virrey Mendoza on the other hand shows up in all the travel books.

We stayed at Hotel Juaninos last year. It was wonderful. The hotel was very quiet, almost like nobody was around. The front desk spoke English and was helpful in making reservations and getting us a car to the airport. The rooms were beautiful. Try to get one with a balcony facing the cathedral. what a view. One warning is that they keep the cathedral brightly lit up until the early hours of the morning.

Thanks, Andy, I appreciate hearing another positive review. Curious that it's not mentioned in any of the travel books. I went ahead and booked Los Juaninos awhile back. We'll be there mid February. How did you like Morelia. We'll be there several nights in order to go to monarch sanctuary one day and Patzcuaro another probably. Any restaurants you liked?

For restaurants and hotels in and around Morelia:
